As Suzie (Hazel Moore) is unwinding in her room, Alice (Jamie Michelle), her parent, enters to chat with her. Suzie's stepfather and Alice's ex-husband, Kevin (John Strong), is where Suzie will be staying for two weeks while Alice goes on a work retreat. Suzie is very understanding but also a little anxious because she hasn't seen her stepfather in a long and she wants to make sure he would be alright with her being around. Alice tells her that Kevin is thrilled that Suzie would be staying at his house; after all, their divorce had nothing to do with Suzie and everything to do with their clashing personalities. Alice is certain that they will both enjoy themselves. Kevin lets Suzie in through his front door a few days later. As they greet each other, they're both a little uneasy but yet warm, and he removes her suitcase before inviting her inside. He assures her that everything will be taken care of, all she needs to do is settle in. Kevin gives Suzie a hungrily glancing glance as she passes, but she ignores him. A few days later, Kevin walks into the room carrying two boutique bags as Suzie is lounging on the couch. He apologizes, explaining that he used too much bleach and unintentionally destroyed all of her clothes in the washing, but he made up for it by buying her a ton of new clothes. When Suzie notices how revealing the new clothing are, she cautiously remarks that they're not exactly her style. Acting shy, Kevin apologizes and says he asked the store clerk what kind of clothes girls her age might wear, and she showed him this. Suzie feels sorry for him because of this, so she tries on Perhaps this kind of style isn't all that horrible after all, she says. Suzie doesn't notice, but Kevin has a passionate smile. Suzie is taken aback when Kevin offers for her to sit on his lap when they plan to watch a movie later that day. Is she a little too old for that, Suzie asks. Kevin says, looking devastated, that he guesses she's correct. He simply wanted to make up for lost time because he felt that he had missed out on so many memorable times with her. Suzie consents to sit on his lap out of sympathy for him, not realizing that this is all a part of his plan.
